Gray Matter at the Cable Show

It seems things are going so well in cable that top executives can afford to have a sense of humor. During a session at last week's NCTA convention, video of a decade-old cable modem demonstration was shown featuring a young, dark-haired and dark-suited Brian Roberts. The now-graying-and-thinning Comcast CEO started by poking fun at his current appearance.
"OK, let's start with the hair," he said. "My father has more hair than I do today. It's a real problem."
A little later, News Corp. Chief Operating Officer Peter Chernin chimed in about Mr. Roberts' gray suit, "Brian chooses his suits to match his hair color."
Later, when talking about how much money News Corp. gets from cable operators, Mr. Roberts shot back: "That joke about my hair is going to cost you a penny a sub." As the session ended, when Mr. Roberts was asked what products cable will be offering in the future, he responded that the more important question was, "Eleven years from now, how much hair will you have?"
