Lafayette on La Fayette

May 7, 2007 12:00 AM

Blink can never get enough Lafayette. TV5Monde, the French-language cable channel, was named media sponsor of a yearlong celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Marquis de La Fayette in Lafayette, La., where TV5Monde appears on Cox Cable's channel 270. Lafayette, in Bayou country, will be holding special events featuring food, music, art, history and culture to honor its namesake, the French nobleman who assisted George Washington during the American Revolution. Around the Marquis' birthday in September, the channel will air several original films and documentaries about him. It also is producing an original CD-ROM about the influence La Fayette had on the U.S. that will be available free in both English and French versions to public schools in Louisiana and across America. "We are grateful that our programming partner TV5Monde has agreed to reach out and assist the Lafayette region in paying tribute to a gentleman who played a major role in the history of our country," said Jacqui Vines, regional VP and general manager of Cox Greater Louisiana.
