How Britney Met Your Mother

March 20, 2008 12:18 PM

“How I Met Your Mother,” the critically appreciated CBS show currently in limbo for renewal, is turning to the one sure thing to get hype in the media industry: Britney! The network has released clips from her cameo on the March 24 episode of the show to stir up interest in the program.

She'll be playing a lovelorn receptionist at a dermatologist's office (a psychiatry clinic would be insensitive, we suppose).

Video after the jump...

As Britney's most memorable work previously has been captured via cellphone video and security cameras, a studio-sanctioned cameo can't promise to be the most revealing peak into the Spearsosphere. But this is a show that succeeds in selling the openly gay Neil Patrick Harris as a serial womanizer, so the writers may have a ball with Britney.

How does she do? Hard to say, from the blink-and-you-miss-her clips. It's not quite "Garbo speaks," but it's not as perilous as her ex's various forays into the guest-appearance game ("CSI" anyone?). Bonus: Britney’s weave looks the best it has since the pre-Federline era.

It’s an interesting time for the Twentieth Century Fox Television show: It returned to the air after the writers strike to its second-strongest ratings ever this week, then scored Britney. And two of its stars have movies coming out (Jason Segal in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and Mr. Harris in the sequel to “Harold and Kumar.”

The heat is there, but no greenlight on renewal yet…
