Ray to Transform Young Chefs in One Night

April 20, 2008 9:00 PM

Daytime’s “Rachael Ray” is cooking up quite a treat for a hand-picked group of aspiring young chefs from around the country.

The CBS Domestic Television-distributed syndicated strip is flying the wannabe cooks to New York City to mount an April 28 dinner; they’ll create the menu and prepare full dinners for 70 guests paying $2,500 a head. Proceeds from the event will go to Rachael Ray’s Yum-o! organization.

Rachael and her minions will transform Barbuto Restaurant in the West Village into Café Una Notte (Café One Night, get it?) for the event. They sent out clever laminated menu-style invites to some well-heeled patrons.

Among those already on the guest list: former president Bill Clinton.

Of course, the dinner will be captured for a “Rachael Ray” installment airing May 6. And, oh yeah, the day after the dinner, Ms. Ray will launch her latest cookbook, “Yum-o! The Family Cookbook,” proceeds from which also benefit her organization, which “empowers kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking by teaching families to cook, feeding hungry kids and funding cooking education and scholarships.”

Now that’s a mouthful if ever there was one!
