They're Action Figures, Not Fashion Plates

May 8, 2008 7:30 PM

The NBC Universal Television, DVD, Music and Consumer Products Group will release a set of action figures based on NBC’s hit series “Heroes” in June.

What do these “action” heroes look like?

Claire Bennet, played by Hayden Panettiere, is ready to jump into some hip-popping action. And possibly swat a fly that happens to buzz directly in front of her arms. Anything literally at arm’s length.

To the creators’ credit, though, it would be pretty hard to create a bullet-regurgitating doll.

They did remember to give Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), who has the ability to teleport to any time and place, a bitchin’ samurai sword.

Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), the geneticist behind the theories of these heroes, has no powers of his own, but looks rather stylish in this nice Gap-inspired ensemble. William Sledd would approve!

The villain Sylar (Zachary Quinto) is poised and ready to pick your brain and steal your powers. Or maybe he’ll pick your nose. Or he’s asking you to pull his finger. Whichever, the look on his face means trouble’s a-comin’.

And, rounding out the collection of messenger bags, there’s the Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) figure. Peter has the ability to absorb any power from those he comes into contact with. Apparently he used said abilities to take a bite out of Mohinder’s wardrobe.

No karate-chop action in sight. But the Daily Blink will take pleasure in making dioramas illustrating the Ventimiglia-Panettiere wedding (the two are dating in real life—and yes, the barely legal Ms. Panettiere is 12 years Mr. Ventimiglia’s junior). On the show they’re uncle and niece.

These figures are the first set of three planned for release this year.

This is the first and probably only time I will ever be glad not to be in the cast of this show.

If they make Hayden and Milo look like that, whaddaya think they'd do to my ugly mug? The figures they use for Robot Chicken are better looking than these.
