Behind the Scenes at Daytime Emmys

The 35th annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday included record wins, Regis and talking about butts.
Sitting backstage in the press tent, we were privy to seeing lifetime achievement award recipient Regis Philbin talk about working with Joey Bishop, while informative talk show winner Tyra Banks continued her discussions of booties from her acceptance speech.
During the telecast, in regards to detractors, she said, “I want you to tell them to kiss your dimply, flat, juicy, bootylicious, skinny, jiggly, saggy, fat ass.”
Also discussed backstage was Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming wedding to actress Portia de Rossi. During Ms. DeGeneres’ backstage powwow with the press after her talk show host win, a caterer banged on a side door. In a fun piece of improv, Ms. DeGeneres halted questions, walked over to the side door, Emmy in hand, and let the caterer in.
After the festivities, ABC’s after-party at the Annex hosted several Emmy show attendees, including hosts Cameron Mathison and Sherri Shepherd, as well as “General Hospital’s” Anthony Geary, who picked up his sixth lead actor win.
Perennial “It’s nice just to be nominated” soap opera icon Susan Lucci and Disney-ABC Daytime Television President Brian Scott Frons also stopped by the event.
ABC captured a majority of the big soap awards of the night, but CBS won the bulk of the drama categories, as well as several talk categories. To celebrate, CBS Television Distribution held its own shindig over at Hollywood club Mood.
Rachael Ray partied with Terry Wood, CBS Distribution president of development, and “Ray” executive producer Janet Annino. Ms. Ray topped “Ellen” and “The View” in the entertainment talk show category.
