Faces of New York
July 6, 2008 8:40 PM
Some familiar faces started popping up all over New York last week, thanks to Ovation TV. The fine arts network just kicked off a monthlong programming stunt called “American Revolutionaries,” in which all of its prime-time shows are dedicated to world-changing American artists. It has taken over billboards, city buses, kiosks and wild postings around Manhattan, including in Times Square and along Museum Row. Artists paid tribute to in red, white and blue images include Maya Angelou, Kurt Cobain, Nat King Cole, James Dean, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Georgia O’Keefe, Elvis Presley, Hilary Hahn, Annie Leibovitz, Loretta Lynn, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Sarah Vaughan, Andy Warhol and Orson Welles. Now that’s a group worth standing up for. (Ovation, get it?)
