Fox Shuffles Schedule, Postpones ‘24’

November 7, 2007 4:28 PM

24With the writers strike under way, Fox is switching up its 2008 schedule.

The major moves include indefinitely postponing the premiere of “24,” moving up the launch of “Hell’s Kitchen” into spring and setting premiere dates for several new shows.

Overall, Fox plans a mix of reality and repeats, along with running off its remaining stock of scripted originals.

Even with an ongoing strike expected to dry up scripted episodes, a few freshman projects are being dropped into airless Friday nights.

There’s a large number of changes here, so let’s get to it:

  • Mondays: Fox originally scheduled “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “24.” With only a modest number of “24” episodes reportedly complete, the season-seven premiere is being postponed “to ensure that ‘Day 7’ can air uninterrupted, in its entirety,” Fox says. Now “Prison Break” will launch the night, followed by “Connor” starting Jan. 14 (“Connor” will have a special premiere on Sunday, Jan. 13). Factoring in the limited number of completed shows available, the reality project “When Women Rule the World” will fill in at 8 p.m. starting March 3 and “House” repeats will take over at 9 p.m. on March 10.
  • Tuesdays: “American Idol” has its two-hour season premiere as planned Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. Starting Jan. 22, “Idol” will scale back to one hour and “House” will fall into the 9 p.m. slot. “Hell’s Kitchen” will take over for “House” April 1.
  • Wednesdays: Some modest shuffling here, with a planned 8 p.m. sitcom block replaced by reality. After a two-hour “Idol” on Jan. 16, the new lie detector game show hosted by Mark L. Walberg “Moment of Truth” (formerly called "Nothing But the Truth") falls into the 9 p.m. hour, then “Back to You” repeats at 9:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” and “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” return Jan. 10.
  • Fridays: Traditionally a dead night for Fox, but several freshman scripted projects are being dropped into the night. Repeats of “Bones” and “House” start Jan. 4. Immortal detective drama “New Amsterdam” takes the 9 p.m. slot starting Feb. 22 (by that time CBS will have presumably run out of episodes of its own immortal detective drama, "Moonlight," which currently airs in the same time period). Parker Posey comedy “The Return of Jezebel James,” originally scheduled for Wednesdays, will be paired with “Til Death” repeats on Fridays starting March 7. Starting April 11, “New Amsterdam” will be replaced by another freshman drama, the courtroom drama “Canterbury’s Law” starring Julianna Margulies, which was once slotted for Thursdays.
  • Sundays: No changes to the lineup when it launches Jan. 6. On Feb. 3, Fox has the Super Bowl followed by an original of “House” with guest star Mira Sorvino. There’s the “Connor” premiere Jan. 13. On March 2, the comedy “Unhitched” gets a run at 9:30 p.m.

Fox notes this entire schedule is subject to change pending a writers strike resolution.

Wow:

Noooooooooo!

It's torture waiting for more "24"!

24FanMan UK:

Holy Cr*p!!!!! I can't believe Jack Bauer can't even tackle the WGA

Moonlight Fan:

24 delayed....this is not good. Also I'm a big fan of Moonlight and will miss it. Pay the writers what they want. Geez

fred:

Write your own scripts. The key premise is pure fiction: torture elicits truth and saves all kinds of lives and it's reliable and a really brave and exciting thing to do.

Growth Motivator:

It is unthinkable to postpone JACK! I wait from May to January just to get my dose of Bauer Power.

Do what-EVER you have to, but GET-JACK-BACK!

Amen!

Daphne:

My husband and I have watched 24 since the beginning. We are faithfuls to the show. We are so disappointed to hear that 24 will be delayed. I feel that the fans of 24 are being cheated...do whatever it takes to get JACK BACK. I believe that even a movie promo would be great. I would love to see 24 on the Big Screen!!!! Just a thought.

Terri:

WE NEED JACK BACK! IF YOU HAVE 8 EPISODES TO RUN, THAN WHY NOT RUN THEM FOR NOW. EIGHT WEEKS OF 24 IS BETTER THAN NO 24 AT ALL!! THE SHOW MY LOSE ITS APPEAL IF WE HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR FOR A NEW EPISODE. SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED ON HBO WHEN THE SOPRANOS TOOK TOO MUCH TIME OFF! THIS IS LIKE THE BEGINNING OF THE END. PLEASE START US OFF WITH THOSE NEW ESPISODES. YOUR AUDIENCE WILL UNDERSTAND IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE US HANGING SHOULD THE STRIKE STILL BE ONGOING.

Danielle:

This stinks that Jack is being postponed. I have been watching Jack since Season 4, when my boyfriend and I stumbled upon it by accident. We have been die hard fans since then. We won't even take any phone calls during the show (when its on)!

Put Jack Back on! This is torture and torment, not to be able to watch Jack! We are in love with Jack Baur, the hero!

Nicolle:

This is outrageous!! My family has watched 24 from the first episode ever. It is a long wait between seasons anyway. Everyone makes too much money anyway, so get over it and get on with it.

Angie:

This is sad news!!!! We want Jack Bauer.

LOIS TAYLOR:

PLEASE CONSIDER AIRING WHAT EPISODES YOU HAVE AVAILABLE. MANY OF US HAVE BEEN WAITING PATIENTLY TO SEE THE NEXT SERIES AND ARE TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED THAT WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO WAIT. WE LOVE FOX AND ARE CONFIDENT THAT FOX WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BRING BACK ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR SHOWS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cara:

I can't wait another year! Faithful from the start! We have friends and neighbors over every Monday for "24"! Not only will we be going through Jack withdrawal, but the wine industry will suffer greatly...we polish off at least 3 bottles per episode! It opens the mind! HA! FOX!!! Just air what is completed so far...PLEASE?!?!?

Linda:

I hope that Fox will get the 18 shows completed as soon as the strike is over and air it immediately! No fair to have to wait til next year. Come on writer....get with it!!!!

tj:

Please air what you have already filmed. We need to see what's up with Tony Almeida!!! We love Jack as he is the undisputed king of cool but Tony coming back blows the mind!!!

person:

WE WANT TONY BACK!! WE WANT JACK!! W-E N-E-ED 2-4 B-A-CK N-OW!!!!!!!!

Sonya:

I am totally PISSED!!!!!!!!!! I wait all year to see 24 and now I am not going to get to. Pissed does not even describe how pissed I am. They need to get it together in Hollywood fast.

Dolly:

Please do not dissapoint us by pulling another OC cancellation on fans!!!

Our entire family has watched 24 from season one - and we are all waiting for it to start up again. PLEASE DON"T MAKE US WAIT!!!!!!!

Barbara Lawrence:

Whatever it takes to bring back "24" - do it now!
We have been faithful fans since first airing and have been faithfully waiting for mid-January start. I will watch nothing on Fox in that 9-10 Monday timeslot until 24 reappears...

Kim Jackson:

Although I understand the situation, Fox at least could have rerun the last season of 24 in the 9:00 slot on Monday's. Faithful fans (and newcomers) could at least get their fix until this crisis is over. Kim - Buffalo, NY.

John N:

Screw the writers. Messing up the best series since MASH - they get no sympathy from me. But I can understand Fox not wanting to start with a few episodes

bob:

At least a few episode please 2 months is 2 long 2 wait and now at least till may all the other shows are showing the ones they have alreay taped ths is stupid

RITA:

I have watched 24 sinced the very first show and have not missed one. I do not take any phone calls, clean house or do anything that will take away from my attention of the show. I cannot believe that we have to wait until who knows when to get our 24 JACK fix. 24 is my favorite show and I have all seasons on DVD. Please Come Back To Us Soon.

L Evans:

I have been watching this show since Season One. It is the BEST show on TV! It is totally unfair that the new season is being postponed. My girlfriend and I agree with the blogger (Sonya) we too, are PISSED! This is an OUTRAGE of major proportion.

brian:

Well all i got to say is that once again the writers and network executives seem t ofind a way to mess things up i have been waiting for the new season of 24 for to long i thought holly wood was in the business t omake money as well as entertain us now that you have made millions of dollars over the years now it is time for network executives to entertain us i guess no one cares about the average fan who is dedicated but one thing is for sure when this strike is over and the writers and everyone involves looks back everyone will see how they messed up a promising 2008 season i just hope that all the big wigs and writers are happy with themselves

Nancy:

Pay the writers..they are worth what ever they are asking....why else would grown adults get on line and beg for "24" to air???? They make the show suspenseful, exciting, and keeping everyone so they want more each year! Air the shows!!!!
Some is better than none~!

johnnyv :

I need my 24 we have waited long enough.
End the stike so they can get back to what they do best......I think they deserve what they are asking for after all they did write the stuff.

wanda:

I can't believe it. We are still dealing with "American Idol" and can't complete "24". on. It's the first show we've continued to watch in a long time. Thumbs up for "24".
Pay the writers - let's get real - look how much the actors receive from the movies.

Susan:

Pay the writers now and let's get on with the show! Air the first episodes now--we would rather suffer a break than wait another year for any shows to start. Our whole house revolves around 24. We need our 24 fix.

Mark Altenhof:

BRING BACK 24 ASAP! I've been jonesing so long that I started playing euchre. At least there I can play the Jack bower, and a euchre deck has 24 cards. Don't you see what you're doing to me?!?!?

ErricZ:

Break the union, give up the royalties (music industry manages to figure it out) and give us back 24. It's been too long that one of the only decent shows on tv hasn't been back on yet! F this "reality" crap already -- it's been overdone for years now.

bob:

now im getting really ticked of because that stupid terminater show is replacing 24 the writers deserve whatever they want i hpoe im not alone here but ive been waiting for tony to come back for a long time and now who knows how long ill have to wait.

larry lesser:

This strike has gone on for way too long. How far apart are the differences between management and union? I'm for unions so let's grt this worked out or else many shows will end up losing ou. If it goes on until it's too lkate to film 24 for this season, the show will be dead and the network will lose more than paying the writers a fair share. This really sucks.

Gary:

Why don't we start airing season 1 again for those that may not have seen it. Any 24 is better than NO 24! We all need Jack back on the TV.

andre tinder:

yea i agree with you guys i have watched every episode since season one i will even take work off if i have to work when a new episode is on...i just want the show back to satisfy my 24 needs.

Ron K:

Whatever has to be done to resolve this strike....has to be done. Fans are getting restless!! We want 24!!!!!

Cathey Haghighi:

My husband, Tommy, will be so disappointed to find out season is posponed. This is his favorite show on television. He gets as excited as he does watching OSU beat UM. Michigan being my team and Ohio State his.

Please resolve the writers' strike. First, we lose football on Time Warner, and now "24."

Why do we need Cable Television?

jane mason:

When do you think 24 will be ready to air? It is the best show on TV, by far. Thanks, Jane

john:

I can't wait for 24 to come back on, but if you (like I do) think it is torture to wait a week for the next episode; imagine having to wait months in the middle of the season. I think it is good FOX isn't starting us with a teaser.

24fan:

24 needs to come back soon! i love 24 and i cant wait to see what happens next. this strike needs to stop so 24 will come back along with many other shows that i love.

24Fan:

I have personally introduced everyone I know on to this amazing show and they and their families are hooked. We're talking watching a whole season in 1-2 days and running out to buy the next. PLEASE DON'T DISAPPOINT FANS LIKE THIS!! I say.. I beg... air what you have and let us stop our nervous twitches! :-)
I don't think it is a good idea to mess with the minds and needs of 24 fans!

Gunny:

I watched Lost the first season, then they started with all the scripting problems, etc. I watched for a few more weeks waiting for all the BS to stop and for the show to start progressing. Finally got bored waiting, haven't watched since...

Lost LOST me as a viewer and as good as 24 is you are about to loose me too!

Addicts can kick their addiction if they go long enough without a fix.

Get it fixed before you loose all your viewers, the addiction will not last forever!

Here's your sign.

Gunny:

Everybody can get off the edge of your chair now, just found this statement from:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i903d9ca529efbd334f55e59d511cd9e7

Faced with the possibility of a partial Season 7 of "24," Fox has opted not to air the real-time drama at all this season.

"It's not a decision we wanted to make, but it's one based on how we feel the viewers expect us to schedule the show," said Preston Beckman, Fox's scheduling chief.

The decision to act quickly so early in the strike also was prompted by the large amounts of marketing money associated with the premieres of new series and the annual launch of "24." The network began airing promos for the upcoming season of "24" during the World Series and on a big screen in Times Square.

"Had we delayed executing and implementing of a strike schedule, it could've cost us a lot of money," Beckman said.

So it's not about us, it's about the money.

Jackophile:

Trust me on this!!! Fox is making a huge mistake by not airing 24 this season!!! I believe the person who suggested a repeat of some of the last season had a great point. New viewers will get a chance to get hooked, and addicted watchers like myself can always use a review!! Then air the 7-8 new episodes. The blending of the two (old and new) would make a great season. I mean really ... "The Sarah Connor Chronicles"--ugh!! You're going to choke on this decision. BRING JACK BACK!!

mark:

when is 24 stating on fox

johnny:

Isn't the strike over yet? i've been waiting since summer for the new season of 24. When will the new season be?

SUGGESTION: JACK BAUER SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN CAMEOS ON FOX REALITY SHOWS TO KEEP HIM IN THE SPOTLIGHT.

POSSIBLE CAMEOS:

JACK BAUER IN WHEN WOMEN RULE THE WORLD

JACK BAUER AS A LIE DETECTOR IN MOMENT OF TRUTH

JACK BAUER AS A JUDGE ON IDOL

Monica licursi:

No..please 24 now!!It is a shame !!!! Jack Bauer come back!!! we love you!!! In brazil also ..I have so many friends crazy about 24 !! Don't do that!!

Bob S.:

The union's have destroyed everything else, why not 24... These are not happy people!

Mac:

The month of January is gone and I was wondering
I had not heard anything about 24. Well I have been waiting for 24's return. I remember the season 6 finale. All I can say is, "24, 24, 24,
24, 24, Jack, Jack, Jack." :

Tom:

I am wathcing nothing but re-runs on most shows right now anyway. I don't understand why Fox didn't air previous seasons to watch (I think that was a big mistake). I would watch any episode of 24. Start with season 1 and lets get Jack back on TV! Fox is slowly losing me.

Betty B.:

GIVE US 24 NOW WE WANT JACK BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annabel P.:

WE NEED Jack!

Brian Adams:

This is the only show that I watch consistently on any network. I personally know 5 or 6 people that are disgusted with the inability to sign the talent needed to air 24's season seven. My opinion of Fox and all other Networks has diminished severely over the past few months. I hope and trust you can put this back together and get us some Jack Bauer by mid year and regain the consumer confidence your networks need for revenue.

Monica Licursi:

Do what-EVER you have to, but GET-JACK-BACK!
I agree with my friends.. please!!! We need 24!!

phil feinberg:

The best show on TV. Only one I look forward to. What's up ????

Taroo:

Listen, if you're not going to show the new season at least give us the season 6 reruns. Repeats of other show just don't cut it. I have watched the show from the very beginning and it is still the best action show on television. I understand there are only so many shows taped right now but if your going to postpone it until 2009 then give us season 6 in it's entirety. This only makes sense to me, I'm tired of waiting and as a fan it is very, very, very disappointing!!!

Lane:

I like all the rest of the 24 fanatics, after watching last years season finale couldnt wait for the next season to start. After waiting all this time and now indefinate postponement?? FOX YOUR KILLING ME! COME ON NOW LETS GET IT TOGETHER!

Ronald Minetti:

Why isn't FOX paying the writers what they want? With all the reality shows being aired, FOX and all the other networks have to be making a killing. We want our 24 back. Mondays are like boring. Don't tell me to watch the Terminator. When the original charactors change, it takes away from the original and doesn't make it work for me. How about giving the viewers an exact date when 24 will air. Show the episodes you have. Don't let 24 be another Sopranos.

donna:

Where's JACK?????????? come on...pay the writers what they deserve. After all it's their creative minds that keep us watching....and of course there's chloe and jack that bring the characters to life.

Theresa:

WHEN DO WE GET JACK BACK????????? SOON PLEASE... I am going through withdrawls of 24. I have NEVER missed an eppisode in the last 6 years. Please bring it back soon.

zach:

I hope to see jack kicking but in a couple of weeks. I'm tired of sara connors.

Jackie:

We want 24, The Sara Connors Chronicles SUCK!
I have been watching 24 from the beginning! Please don't deprive us of Kiefer!
From a fellow Canadian

Bill:

I really think that the writers are being greedy. I'm sure that they make more money than I do and I really believe that if you make more than 19000 a year you should be able to live on it. With the child support I pay that's how much I make and it's rough but I can live on it AND take care of my kids when they are with me. But enough of my problems. The writers should just do their jobs. They are the ones who are depriving us of 24 which is why we are writing in in the first place. I have watched 24 from the beginning and really like it but would hate to lose the Sarah Connor Chronicles too. I enjoy them both. Fox, please do what you can to get 24 back on the air.

bok:

you are winning! i'm beginning to hate you. please put back 24, pretty please,, i miss jack. what i am doing rignt now is keep on viewing season 4,5, & 6 on dvd. when do i get to see season 7?? my life is a mess. i'm keeping my family crazy. cant do anything but watch 24 on dvd. all they can hear from the family room is ** previously on 24 **...bok toronto canada

MILI:

PLEASE JUST LET US HAVE THE EPISODES YOU ALREADY HAVE AND MAKE THE REST WHILE THOSE ARE AIRING. We have waited too long.... from may too january THRU KIEFER'S inprisonment. My friend bought me a tv just so that I wouldn't miss any episodes of 24 and now they aren't on. Thank goodness for the dvds of all the other seasons I have that I can watch, BUT STILL WE WANT AND NEED JACK BACK NOW...PLEASE!!!!!

Steve:

OK. The writers strike is OVER. Now what? When will 24 start?

Patty:

Now the strike is over when is 24 coming on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we miss it so ... Jack needs to come back soon.

bre:

THIS IS REDICULOUS! i am only in high school but me and all my friends love jack! if fox doesnt put 24 back on soon my whole school (2000 kids) is willing not to wathch fox till it comes on! and we cant be alone in this so get jack back on the air! unless all you executives want to be fired!

krista:

Ok the strike is over now. all the other shows are coming back on or starting their seasons what is so wrong with not telling the fans when the show will reair this is absolutely rediculous. and begining to make me the most pissed off fan of all time. I WANT JACK BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miss V:

Kera-ap!!! Give it up already - we want 24 - nothing else will do. 2009? R U kidding!! Paleese change your minds. . .

rAY:

HEARD A NASTY RUMOR 24 WOULDN'T BE ON AT ALL THIS YEAR.. ANYONE ELSE HEAR THIS? DON'T THINK THESE FOOLS UNDERSTAND EXACTLY HOW MANY PEOPLE WATCH THIS THING. I WANT MY 24!!!!!!!

RAY:

Faced with the possibility of a partial Season 7 of "24," Fox has opted not to air the real-time drama at all this season.

"It's not a decision we wanted to make, but it's one based on how we feel the viewers expect us to schedule the show," said Preston Beckman, Fox's scheduling chief.

GARY:

PRESTON BECKMAN (FOX)--

Your "feelings" have NOTHING to do with what we long-time viewers really want. If you don't show the episodes you have now, I won't be inclined to wait for next year. You are looking after the network and your interests, not us viewers!!

GARY

thisisridiculous:

I WANT JACK BAUER BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FJDKSAL;FJDSLA;FSJ I HAVE JUST RECENTLY STARTED WATCHING 24 THIS SUMMER FROM THE VERY FIRST EPISODE.... I CANT STOP NOWWWWWWWW....... I DONT CARE IF ITS ONLY 6 OR 7 EPISODES... FJKALD;FJSLKJFA;DSKL

CES:

As usual the networks couldn't care less about viewers, who is in charge anyway ??? When decisions are made, the public is obviously not consulted.

Making people wait a year is just ridiculous !!!to say the least. Air what you have, and people are not inclined to forget once it does come back -- at least that will hold us over.

If you don't, it could be suicide for the show. Does anyone actually read waht we write anyway ? If you did, we would be seeing 24 this Spring and then again in January !

Emma Ardoin:

Enjoy watching the show 24. When is it airing again hope soon. I was carefully following the story from week to week. Why is it not showing now?

MARTIN EKE:

WE WANT REAL ACTION IN SEASON 6 AND SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT IN SEASON 7. PLS JACK SHOULD NOT DIE. WE LOVE TO SEE HIM MAKE TERRORIST TALK.
