'Nashville Star’ Moves to NBC

January 17, 2008 12:39 PM

Nashville Star (USA)

The sixth season of USA Network’s country music competition series “Nashville Star” is moving to NBC for a summer run.

“Nashville” will air as part of an “All-American Summer” promotion, which includes the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and the second season of “American Gladiators.” As previously reported, NBC plans to use the Americana theme to help unify its summer programming.

"These exciting new reality shows will be a vital part of 'NBC's All-American Summer' building up to the drama of the Beijing Olympics," said Craig Plestis, executive VP of alternative programming at NBC. "We are thrilled to feature the powerhouse 'Gladiators' this summer and it's a real coup to bring 'Nashville Star' to NBC."

With the writers strike shutting down production of scripted programming, USA Network series “Monk” and “Psych” also will get a run on NBC. The difference is that NBC will air originals of “Nashville,” but repeats of the other shows, which were produced earlier this season. Whether the NBC version of “Nashville” will receive a second airing on USA Network has yet to be determined.

NBC plans some changes for “Nashville.” A two-hour audition special will show the best and worst from the show’s casting process, as “American Idol” does. Duets and singing groups will be allowed to compete for the first time, and the audition age has been lowered to 16.

The series’ hosts have included Jewel, Wynonna Judd and LeAnn Rimes. For this round, a new host and judges will be announced.

The series joins “The Biggest Loser” and “The Office” as NBC titles affiliated with NBC Entertainment Co-Chair Ben Silverman, who is an executive producer on “Nashville” along with his former Reveille partners Howard T. Owens and Mark Koops, as well as Sallyann Salsano.

RealityBites:

Ben Silverman sure knows how to pick good shows He just looks for his name in the credits!

Scott Howard:

This season is going to be off the chain! I love this show and have followed it since Season 1 on CMT. Now with it moving to a big television network and being placed on primetime after American Gladiators this show is going to be an instant hit yet again. I even heard that they are bringing in Taylor Swift to perform. I wonder what song she is going to perform.

LovinMyMullet:

I just heard a rumor that, at the last minute, one of the finalists was replaced. Charla Corn was replaced by a group called Third Town. I wonder what happened? It'll definately make it interesting this Monday for the Premiere.

Scott Howard:

Are you kidding! I cannot wait to see what else happens tonight. Why can't they replace Billy Ray Cyrus at the last minute LOL. This show is going to be great. I know this season is going to be a fantastic season possibly the best one yet!!!

Natalie Sands:

If there had to be a last minute replacement...NBC made the right choice. Third Town rocked! Love their vocals!

I been watching nashville star since it first came on and I have to say I'm more than disappointed in this one...From what I saw you really had only a few that could really sing and you sent one of the best one home...Steele and Jewel I don't see how you of all people could have sent Charley home as for Jewel he sings cicles around you maybe that is why you thought you had to send him home because he is a true COUNTRY ARTIST and YOU ARE NOT..I HOPE AND PRAY SOMEONE OUT THERE HEARD CHARLEY SING AND GIVE HIM A CHANGE AT A RECORD DEAL AND SHOW THE WORLD THAT EVERYONE AIN'T TONE DEATH AND WHO SEES TRUE TALENT WENT IT IS IN FRONT OF THEM...MY GOD YOU PEOPLE AIN'T JUST BLIND YOU ARE STUPID AS WELL..I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED AS A COUNTRY FAN..MAYBE I SHOULD RETHINK MY SUPPORT OF COUNTRY MUSIC..GEE
YOU DON'T GIVE UP CHARLEY..I GONNA BE THE FIRST ONE TO BUY YOUR RECORD..YOU HEARD ME RIGHT YOUR RECORD CAUSE YOU WILL BE A COUNTRY SINGER...YOU GO CHARLEY...

Jeff Bonicky:

For all of us that have followed this show since it has come on air, I have one question to ask.....WHERE IS THE COUNTRY MUSIC?????

WHY IS THERE MORE POP MUSIC THAN COUNTRY? AND HOW COULD THE MENTOR JUDGES EVEN ALLOW THESE SINGERS TO NOT SING A COUNTRY SONG?

iS THIS because of the prime time channel?

i'm very disappointed this year....

Bill Preston:

Love the show the talent, the judges and the format and the behind the scenes clips are great.
The only negative thing about this show is the appearance of Billy Ray Cyrus.....com'on folks can't someone do something for this guy's hair that looks like a dirty mop. Surely their must be some kind of a wardrobe, even a mini wardrobe for this guy to be fitted for some decent clothes.
I bet some of the stage hands and janitors there dress better than this guy, who is supposed to be the host. This guy defintely needs a complete makeover !!!!!!!
