AETN's Second Postcard from the Palais
April 16, 2007 10:54 AM
This morning we announced the near term launch of The History Channel and Crime & Investigation Network in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the formation of a landmark joint venture with Astro to operate these channels and more. Very exciting news - the latest move in a wave that has seen the launch of seven channels outside the US in six months.
Also got some great news from our channels last night – particularly Crime & Investigation Network – as the channel continues to move up the rankings in the UK and Australian markets … Our distribution partners are very excited about the channel. Lots of interest in this brand from around the globe in meetings over the weekend and today.
In addition to our booming channel business, we’ve had a strong start to the market with our program syndication business. We’ve brought over 280 new hours to MIP TV, and today alone we closed a large volume deal in Russia with Channel 5, and 100 hour package deals in both Macedonia and Serbia-Bosnia – our first deals in these two territories. Our channels have been excited by Dogfights, First 48 and the new Biography hours we’re producing, including Bono, Reese Witherspoon, Tina Turner and Daniel Craig. Our booth has been humming all day with scheduled meetings and a ton of walk-ins.
Finally, the weather may be smiling on us here, but the storm in the northeast has brought challenges to our market. This morning, our VP, International Programming had to depart to address tremendous water damage to his home and comfort his family after their thankfully safe evacuation. We wish him and his family the best of luck in the disaster recovery process.
Fighting through the delayed onset of jet lag and day and a half meeting fatigue, with a steady diet of coffee and bread products. Dinner tonight with distributors, drinks with partners, tomorrow am breakfast with a producer and tomorrow a full slate of meetings. “Groundhog Day” is upon us. Exciting times just the same.
