‘Dancing’ Gives ABC a Leg Up Over Returning CBS Comedies

CBS is one of the first networks out of the gate with almost a full night of returning strike-hampered shows, but ABC’s season premiere of “Dancing With the Stars” boosted the Alphabet network to a Monday win.
“Dancing” posted a 5.5 rating/15 share in the 18- to 49-year-old demographic, according to preliminary Nielsen numbers, just about on par with the show’s September premiere. The show is down 14% year-to-year.
Rounding out the night was the newest version of “The Bachelor” (3.3), again on par with the last iteration.
ABC was first with a 4.4.
CBS (3.9) brought in new episodes of Monday comedies “The Big Bang Theory” (3.7), “How I Met Your Mother” (4.3), “Two and a Half Men” (5.4) to join “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (4.3), which was already in new episodes.
“How I Met Your Mother,” “Two and a Half Men” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” all posted season-high ratings in the 18-49 demo.
NBC’s reality series “My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad” (1.5) slipped 44% from last week’s previous season average, while “Deal or No Deal” (2.9) was level with last week. “Medium” (3.2) was up 10% from last week.
NBC was third on the night with a 2.5.
Fox, in fourth place with a 2.0 for the night, saw “Canterbury’s Law” (1.7) tie its disappointing premiere numbers last week. “New Amsterdam” (2.3) managed to stop its airing-to-airing ratings slide somewhat, dipping just 8%.
The CW (0.6) was fifth with a “Gossip Girl” repeat (0.6, 0.7 in The CW’s key 18-34 demo) and a new episode of “Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious” (0.7).

I am very upset with the scheduling of Dancing with the stars. My first love is American Idol. Why oh why did you have to put Dancing with the Stars in the same time slot! Hopefully that will change!
