‘Oprah’s Big Give’ Gets Big Return

March 3, 2008 12:45 PM

Premieres were sprinkled throughout Sunday, with Oprah Winfrey’s latest series taking top ratings honors among 18- to 49-year-old viewers.

“Oprah’s Big Give” launched Sunday night on ABC with a 5.3, according to preliminary Nielsen numbers, along with the premiere of “Here Come the Newlyweds,” which posted a 4.1 to lead its 10 p.m. time slot.

ABC won overall on the night with a 4.3.

Fox (3.8) had a premiere of its own with oddball comedy “Unhitched,” which was pushed into the 10 p.m. slot due to NASCAR overrun. “Unhitched” posted a preliminary 2.5, but that will change once final numbers are posted Tuesday, as live events tend to throw off the early Nielsen numbers.

“Unhitched” is down 19% from Fox’s most recent 9:30 Sunday time-period premiere, “The Winner.”

CBS placed third (2.1), ballasted by “Big Brother” (2.3) and “Dexter” (2.0), which is holding steady week-to-week.

NBC slipped into fourth (2.0). A special showing of “Deal or No Deal” (2.3) was the top-rated show for the network, whose night was rounded out by “Dateline” (1.9) and a repeat “Law & Order: SVU” (2.1).

The CW was fifth with a 0.5, showing new episodes of “Everybody Hates Chris” (0.5) and “Aliens in America” (0.4) plus repeats.

Over the rest of the weekend, Fox won Saturday (2.1) with its police reality lineup of “Cops” (2.0, 2.2) and “America’s Most Wanted” (2.0). An assortment of movies and repeats scored ABC a 1.3, CBS a 1.3 and NBC a 1.2.

CBS nabbed a win on Friday (1.9), helped by the second installment of its primetime “The Price Is Right” specials (2.2). “Price” is down 12% from last week’s premiere.

Fox finished second Friday (1.8) with repeats of “House” and “Bones.” NBC was third (1.7) as the second week of its new game show, “Amnesia” (1.3), fell off the table from last week’s 2.4 premiere.

ABC tied NBC with a 1.7 showing a repeat of “Grey’s Anatomy” (1.2) and episodes of “20/20” (1.9, 2.1).

The CW (1.4) was fifth with “Friday Night Smackdown!” (1.4).
