‘Gladiators’ Pummeled in Premiere

May 13, 2008 12:02 PM

Without rubbing salt in the wound, I think it’s warranted to point out how low “Gladiators” sank last night with a separate post.

Background: When the show debuted, it gave NBC a shot in the arm with an impressive 5.9/14. Ratings steadily decreased over the course of its February run, but “Gladiators” left the schedule with a respectable 3.0/9.

It has cratered back onto the schedule last night with a 1.9/5. In terms of percentages, that’s down 68% from the premiere, 60% from its time-period premiere and 37% from its previous episode.

Even more damning is the drop in the 18- to 34-year-old male demo from that last episode to now, tapering off by 56%, from a 3.9/11 to a 1.7/4.

It’s not like the show wasn’t being promoted, either: “Gladiators” is heavily featured in NBC’s All American Summer campaign until the Olympics arrive.

The two-hour season premiere was an extended episode; the show will run 8-9:30 p.m. next week.

No, I'm not making an inappropriately placed comment about a CBS vampire series.

What does Silverman expect? Gladiators is not a primetime show. It's not even a Summer primetime show.

Even back in the day when it was the only thing in weekend prime access to watch it wasn't something I was dying to see, and I'm pretty much part of the demo here.

And, btw, Hogan (bless his enlarged heart) isn't a TV host. Maybe for CMT, but not here on a broadcast network. When I see Mike Adamle trolling for cash on ECW on SciFi I think he must be pissed that he didn't get the call.

Also, the prosthetics episode was really hard to watch, especially the one game with all the tackling.

DAVE L:

I THINK ANY ONE WHO HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH NBC HAS LOST IT!! SILERMAN IS RUNNING IT INTO THE GROUND AND EVERYONE SHOULD JUMP SHIP BEFORE IT'S TO LATE!! OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE IT'S BEEN SINKING FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS!!!!!!!
