‘60 Minutes’ Winning Unopposed

The New York Times looks into the recent success of newsmagazine “60 Minutes.” Viewers’ hunger for important information in these hard times and exclusive interviews like last week’s with Barack and Michelle Obama are part of it, but so is the lack of competition from the other networks. “There were years when we had lots of competition, and it was hard to get stories and hard to be topical,” correspondent Steve Kroft tells the Times. “Now, once again, we have the field to ourselves.”
