ABC Affiliates Make Staff Cuts

Nov 7, 2008  •  Post A Comment

The economy continues to take its toll on local television stations with two stations in Kansas and Washington letting go of employees. KTKA-TV, ABC’s affiliate in Topeka, Kan., laid off nine employees Thursday due to economic pressures, the Topeka Capital-Journal reports. Of the affected employees, most came from the station’s news and production divisions. KVEW-TV, another ABC affiliate that broadcasts to Washington’s Tri-Cities and Yakima markets, announced it was cutting 17 employees from its payroll, the Tri-City Herald reports. KTKA station manager and news director Ike Walker told the Capital-Journal, “There is a reorganization of the company. We’re trying to find efficiencies and make better use of our assets.”
