Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., plans to propose a bill in January that would prohibit Internet providers from blocking Web content, Reuters reports. Sen. Dorgan believes the law would be essential in preventing telephone and cable companies from discriminating against Internet content, Reuters says. “We feel that legislation is definitely necessary,” said Frannie Wellings, the senator’s telecom counsel, at a University of Nebraska law school event on changes in telecom law after the election of Barack Obama as president.
