With the addition of several young cast members, creator Dick Wolf is priming “Law & Order,” entering its 19th season on NBC, to catch up to and pass “Gunsmoke” as the longest-running drama in prime-time history, the Associated Press reports. Ratings were up 19% in Season 18, and Wolf is trying to keep the series fresh. “He changed the look of the show, he changed the way it’s lit, he changed the way it’s shot and the way it’s edited, but not so that you go, ‘Oh, this is not the same show.’ But it’s all refreshed,” Sam Waterston, whose character on the show has been promoted to district attorney, tells the wire service.
