U.S. Media Eyeing India’s Ad Growth

Nov 5, 2008  •  Post A Comment

India’s huge population is a market just waiting to be tapped, so it should come as no surprise that U.S. media companies have already made their presence known on the subcontinent, the Wall Street Journal reports. Viacom, NBC Universal, News Corp. and Time Warner have already staked their claims by owning or backing various channels, the newspaper says. Hindi-language channel Colors has backing from Viacom while NBCU has invested $150 million in NDTV Imagine, a Hindi channel owned by an Indian media company. Time Warner’s Turner Networks, along with India’s Alva Brothers Entertainment, is the owner of a yet-to-be-named entertainment channel. If there’s a leader among them it’s News Corp., whose Star TV’s Star Plus channel has dominated India’s TV ratings for years.
