No Performances by Best Song Nominees on the Oscarcast Deadline.com
The producers of this year's Academy Awards broadcast, Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic, have reportedly decided not to ask the best song nominees to perform their songs during the show, reports Deadline.com.
Instead of a live song performance, the nominated music will be interspersed with footage from the associated films.
In addition to that change, Shankman has decided to add variety to the telecast in the form of dancers from the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance."

That is idiotic. Not everyone has heard the songs so having them performed is a highlight.

Just playing a :10 segment during the announcement of the nominee would be enough

So, in order to save time during the broadcast and quicken the pace, they're going to eliminate the song performances... and replace it with dancing. How exactly does that make the broadcast shorter? Do Shankman and Mechanic have special watches or something?
