HBO's 'The Pacific' Ratings: We Report, You Decide B&C
There seems to be some disagreement in the trade press as to how well Sunday's debut of HBO's "The Pacific" did in the ratings.
B&C titles its story "‘Pacific' Draws Healthy Viewership For Opener."
TVByTheNumbers titles its account "Kamikaze! HBO's Big Budget 'The Pacific' Premiere Ratings Disappoint."
From the B&C story: "Combined with the 11 p.m. rerun, the opening episode of The Pacific attracted 4 million viewers and outperformed the 9 p.m. time period by 69%."
From the TVByTheNumbers story: "Sunday night’s premiere of HBO’s The Pacific was watched by 3.1 million viewers another 900,000 or so caught the encore telecast bringing the cumulative total for the night to 4 million. I warned you last week not to expect numbers anywhere near the level of the premiere of Band of Brothers in 2001, which opened to 10 million. Changing TV viewing landscapes including more DVR, more On Demand and more choice in general – I would’ve been shocked if it got anywhere near Band of Brother.
"On the other hand, I expected it to do as well as, say, the average telecast of "True Blood" in season two. It didn’t."

What do you expect with the idiotic statements made by Tom Hanks in the press.... I won't watch it just because of that. Can't wait for it to be over so I can see something else on HBO.

STOP being such easy set-ups as usual.
FACT IS ---having made BILLIONS upon BILLIONS these past decades outsourcing
and unflinchingly catering to the franchise-slum denial needs of history's MOST awesomely genocidal regime ---in their 'fave' captive mass market ---ACROSS the Pacific ---Hollywood continues to run for moral cover behind ad nauseum, anachronistic PC WWII retreads ---even on this! -the once again 'mysteriously overlooked'
60th Anniversary of the
epic, genuinely relevant ---indeed,
STILL unfolding ---KOREAN WAR!
HOLLYWOOD is doing de facto dodge
and cover for RED CHINA ---plain and simple...
--------pass it on!

Anyone who thinks there were no racist overtones in the Pacific War whatsoever needs to go on YouTube and look up:
Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips
Tokio Jokio
You're a Sap Mr. Jap
And any of the other HUNDREDS of propaganda cartoons produced by Disney, Warner Bros. and Fleischer during the war. Watch those and tell me that they wouldn't be interpreted as racist if they were made today. Then compare them to similar cartoons made about Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy.
To deny it is being just as naive and blinded by years of John Wayne flag-waving as you're accusing Hanks of being anti-American and inflammatory. IT DID HAPPEN. The Pacific War was one of the most savage conflicts in modern history. It was brutal, violent and cruel on a scale not seen in the European Theater (only the Eastern Front approached the sheer level of pure mutual hatred the beligerents had for each other).
The Pacific Theater has ALWAYS been the "forgotten war." Europe has ALWAYS taken the place of prestige in American culture. When we talk about "D-Day," we immediately think "Normandy," even though there was NEVER a more specific meaning than merely being a code for the day of invasion when setting objectives and priorities, (IE, land on D-Day, control such-and-such position by D+3, etc) and was actually used as early as two years earlier for the invasion of Guadalcanal, not to mention Italy, Peleliu, Saipan, Luzon, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
The war in Europe has been elevated to a nearly mythical status by the West, while time and again the Pacific is relegated to a back page of the history books. To blame everything on Hanks's comments is no less short-sighted than the comments themselves. Time and again the American public has proven to have little interest in the history of the Pacific War. The suffering ratings of The Pacific has as much to do with that as any accusations of Hanks alienating his audience.
Designer Discounts Handbags
Gucci is to surprise me. While the rest of the fashion industry still trying to catch back my conservative breath in the last two years glam Gucci is a strong declaration a return to purist roots. Gucci Designer Discounts Handbags in their modern incarnation of the last decades was quite big and bright, in general, or at least attention to the parties. These bags are big and blingy time, what the public thinks when it comes to Gucci bags. But this modern classic Gucci has taken a back seat in this year to a more traditional approach. This is not the first time Gucci has changed his tone. The classical roots of the Gucci done in his name in the 60s and 70s has, since then, I venture to say, look at the kitschy 80th It is useful to remember what the 80 in question. You started to make your name in the 90's new if it combines its bold design products more user friendly. So we lead into the new millennium in which everyone was happy and started to play with fashion (finally!) And now, the pendulum swung again, the head of Gucci to more sub-parts. The question in my mind is: Do not miss the old, Gucci, and we embrace their new opportunities back to the forefront of fashion.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
