The Chairman of the nation’s sixth largest cable MSO, Bright House Networks, is retiring at the end of the year, the company has announced.

That’s Bob Miron, one of the most well-known figures in the cable business for the past four decades. 

Miron, who will be 73 in July, will be turning over the reins of Bright House to its CEO and President who are, respectively, his son Steve Miron and his daughter, Nomi Bergman, both in their mid-forties. 

In his long career in cable, Bob Miron has received myriad awards for service and innovation, and has been active in many of cable’s best known associations. He’s been Chairman of the National Cable & Telecommunications Assn. (twice), and is currently the Chairman of C-SPAN and Vice-Chairman of the Cable Center. 

One of Miron’s most prescient moves was investing in the then nascent Discovery Communications in 1986. He will continue on Discovery’s board of directors even after he steps down at Bright House. 

Bright House is owned by Advance Newhouse, and Bob Miron is the nephew of media mogul Samuel Irving Newhouse, best known as Si Newhouse. Among other media properties the Newhouse family owns is the Conde Nast publishing group. Some of the magazines the family publishes include The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.
