‘Modern Family’ Producer Says iPad Episode Went ‘Too Far’

Jeff Morton, a producer of ABC’s "Modern Family," said the show went "a little too far in hindsight" with an episode that revolved around Apple Computer’s iPad, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

The episode featured one character’s quest to receive an iPad for his birthday, and aired around the time the actual product hit stores.

Conspiracy theories floated when some observers noted that Apple Chairman Steve Jobs also serves on ABC’s board.

Morton, who was speaking on Saturday at at the Producer Guild’s Produced By 2010 industry conference, said he had hoped that Apple would give iPads to everyone on the staff, which didn’t happen.

Still, 20th Century Fox Television bought iPads for the program’s department heads.
