In a tight Monday night Nielsen ratings race, ABC, powered by “Dancing With the Stars,” was a touch better than CBS overall, TVbytheNumbers.com reported.

ABC came out ahead in the battle for the 18-49 demo with an average rating of 3.7 for the night to CBS’s 3.4. Fox trailed with 2.7, while Univision, with a 1.6 rating, beat NBC (1.5) and CW (0.9) In total viewers ABC was well ahead of the pack with 17.5 million to CBS’s 10.6 million.

At 8 p.m. Fox’s "House" and the first hour of ABC’s "Dancing With the Stars" tied with 3.7 average ratings in the 18-49 demo for the hour. CBS’s "How I Met Your Mother" and "Rules of Engagement" had a 3.5 rating and a 3.1, respectively, in the same demographic, while NBC’s "Matt Lauer Reports" had a mean score of 1.75 in the 18-49 and CW’s "90210" got a mean rating of 0.85 in the same demo.

At 9 p.m. "Dancing" grew to an average 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demo for the hour, compared with CBS’s "Two and a Half Men" and "Mike & Molly" at 4.4 and 3.7, respectively, in the same demo. Fox’s "Lie to Me" averaged a 1.8 for the hour and NBC’s "The Event" had a 1.75 average, both in the 18-49 demo. CW’s "Gossip Girl" netted a mean rating of 0.95 in the 18-49 demographic.

The 10 p.m. hour saw CBS’s "Hawaii Five-0" squeak out a win with a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, just ahead of ABC’s "Castle" with a 2.85 in the same demo. NBC’s "Chase" was well behind with a 1.1 in the 18-49 demo for the hour.
