After 70 Years on the Job, Famed Comic Strip Reporter Will Join Ranks of Unemployed Journalists

Dec 10, 2010  •  Post A Comment

For 70 years, one comic strip reporter has been consistently on the story–and now that run is coming to an end. Tribune Media Services, which owns the strip, announced Thursday that ace reporter Brenda Starr will be retiring, The Huffington Post reports.

The “Brenda Starr” comic strip will end its newspaper syndication run, with the last column set to run Jan. 2, 2011.

Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich and artist June Brigman chose to end the run rather than have the strip closed down. The late Dale Messick created the character and the strip in June 1940.
