Fox News Host’s Comment Sparks Outcry

A comment by a high-profile host on Fox News, filling in on the channel’s “Great American Panel,” has sparked outrage, with critics including Milton Kent of the San Francisco Chronicle chiming in.

The comment Tuesday by Tucker Carlson, guest-hosting for Sean Hannity, concerned controversial Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who did time in prison for dogfighting. Carlson said Vick “should have been executed” for his crimes, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

“I’m a Christian,” Carlson said, according to the story. “I’ve made mistakes myself. I believe fervently in second chances. But Michael Vick killed dogs, and he did in a heartless and cruel way. And I think personally he should have been executed for that. He wasn’t.”

Vick, who is having a career year on the field, has also been making speeches this year against cruelty to animals, the Sun-Times story reports.

In his Chronicle piece, Kent says Carlson went over the top and calls for Carlson to lose his job.
