MTV U Makes an Unexpected Choice for Man of the Year Huffington Post

If you're thinking that MTV U might be expected to choose a popular singer such as Justin Bieber as its Man of the Year, think again.

MTV's college network made a political choice and named Robert Gates, secretary of Defense, as the Man of the Year, according to The Huffington Post.

In a statement released Wednesday, MTV U recognized Gates as "a role model for public service, proving that it's possible to work within an institution to impart change."

On the distaff side, rapper Nicki Minaj was named Woman of the Year.
