You Suspected This Was True, Didn’t You? Study Says We Spend As Much Time Online as We Spend Watching TV [We Can All Thank Our Smartphones For This]

Look like that nagging suspicion most of us have about how consumers spend their time turns out to be true.

Americans are spending as many hours online as they are watching television, Media Daily News reports, citing a Forrester study.

The average U.S household watches 13 hours a week of traditional TV, equal to the same amount of hours spent online, according to a Forrester survey called "Understanding The Changing Needs Of The US Online Consumer, 2010."

While the amount of television time has been constant over the last five years, Internet use has more than doubled during that time, the study found.

Gen Xers, those between the ages of 31 to 44, for the first time are spending equal or more time with the Internet, something that Gen Yers (those between 18 to 30) have done before, the story notes.

Younger Boomers, people between 45 to 54, are spending an equal amount of time with both media, the story notes. Much of the jump in Internet usage comes from mobile devices, the story points out.
