Anderson Cooper Talk Show Selling Well, Lands 25 More Markets TVWeek
Another 25 stations have signed on to air “Anderson” beginning in fall 2011, it was announced to day by Ken Werner, president, and Rick Meril, executive VP and general sales manager, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
The Anderson Cooper-hosted talk show is replacing “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in a significant number of markets, with Knoxville and Lexington joining previously announced Washington, San Diego and Bakersfield in that category.
The show is now cleared on 104 stations, representing more than 82% of the domestic market, the company announced.
“New clearances in major markets include: KYW (Philadelphia), WFAA (Dallas), WXIA (Atlanta), KPHO (Phoenix), KING (Seattle), WFTS (Tampa), WCCO (Minneapolis), KUSA/KTVD (Denver), WFOR/WBFS (Miami), WOIO (Cleveland), KDNL (St. Louis), KGW (Portland, OR), WCCB (Charlotte), KVVU (Las Vegas), WATE (Knoxville), WKYT (Lexington), WHEC (Rochester, NY), WRSP (Champaign), and WSBT (South Bend), among others,” the company said in a press release.
“We are thrilled that stations have so enthusiastically embraced our vision for Anderson’s future in daytime television,” Werner said in a statement. “In my career, I cannot remember a clearance process this accelerated.”
The new daily show has now been bought by stations representing the Allbritton, Bahakel, Belo, Capital, CBS, Citadel, Cordillera, Cox, Draper, Fisher, Fox, Freedom, Gannett, GOCOM, Gray, Hearst, Hubbard, LIN, Local TV, London, Media General, Meredith, Midwest TV, Morgan Murphy, National, News Press & Gazzette, New Vision, Newport, Northwest, Post-Newsweek, Raycom, Sarkes Tarzian, Schurz, Scripps, Sinclair, Smith Media, Titan, Tribune and Young station groups, the company said.
