Dr. Phil Sends Golden-Voiced Homeless Man to Rehab EW

The homeless man whose golden voice made him an Internet sensation and recently landed him some broadcasting work revealed on “Dr. Phil” that he has fallen off the wagon, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Ted Williams told Dr. Phil McGraw that he is drinking again, and he agreed at Dr. Phil’s urging to enter a private treatment facility for his alcoholism and drug use, the story says.

Williams and his family appeared on the show and discussed a recent altercation between Williams and his daughter at a hotel in Hollywood, in which the police briefly detained Williams.

“If Ted is ever going to get better, he’s got to be honest with himself and admit he’s addicted to drugs and alcohol,” Dr. Phil said in a release for the show, which is scheduled to air Thursday. “I’ve told him it’s not going to be easy and it’s going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction.”

As recently reported, Williams parlayed his sudden Internet celebrity into work, getting a job doing voiceovers for MSNBC.
