Fox Coasts to Sunday Ratings Win on Strength of Pro Bowl

Fox’s broadcast of the NFL Pro Bowl, a sloppy mess of an exhibition game, proved the power of football as it dominated the Nielsen ratings Sunday night, reports TVbytheNumbers.com.

Fox came away with an easy overall win for the night in the 18-49 demo, averaging a 4.1 rating to a 2.1 for ABC. CBS followed with a 1.9 average rating, ahead of NBC’s 1.3.

In total viewers CBS squeaked by with a narrow win, averaging 11.8 million for the night to 11.5 million for Fox. Trailing were ABC with 7.5 million and NBC with 4.6 million.

At 7 p.m. the first hour of the NFL broadcast logged a 4.6 average in the 18-49 demographic for the hour, besting ABC’s "America’s Funniest Home Videos" with a mean score of 2.15, CBS’s "60 Minutes’ with a1.4 and NBC’s "Dateline" at 1.3, all in the same demo.

At 8 p.m. the AFC/NFC all-star game collected an average rating of 4.75 in the 18-49 demo, over ABC’s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" with a 2.4 in the same demo. NBC’s “National Treasure” movie broadcast managed only a 1.15.

In the 9 p.m. hour, the NFL game scored a 3.95 mean score in the 18-49 demographic, while hour two of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" rose to a 2.95 average in that demo. CBS’s Hallmark movie "The Lost Valentine" netted a 2.05 in the 18-49 demo for its first hour, while the second hour of NBC’s “National Treasure” was up slightly, to a 1.3.

At 10 p.m. the second hour of "The Lost Valentine" won the time slot for CBS with a 2.5 in the 18-49 demo. “National Treasure” climbed to a 1.6 average.
