Before Steve Carell’s character on “The Office,” Michael Scott, leaves the show he will have an encounter with his counterpart from the U.K. version of the show, David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais, New York Magazine reports in its Vulture blog.

“Ricky Gervais shot a top-secret cameo that will appear in the cold open of the January 27 episode of the NBC series,” Josef Adalian writes in the blog.

"It’s a little more than if you blink, you’ll miss it, but if you don’t set your TiVo right, you’ll miss it," says Paul Lieberstein, showrunner for “The Office.”

The scene was shot back in September, the story says, when Gervais was in Los Angeles for the Emmys.
