Portable televisions that are capable of receiving both over-the-air and mobile digital signals will be introduced by RCA, with the devices being shipped to Radio Shack in the first quarter, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Technology blog.

The portable TVs will be battery operated and come in 3.5-inch and 7-inch screen sizes, the story notes. While mobile DTV products haven’t gained much traction, RCA appears to believe there’s demand for such products, according to the piece.

Each of the three mobile DTV sets from RCA will feature a signal strength indicator, closed captioning, an easel-back stand and English- or Spanish-language display options, the story notes.

Mobile DTV was a big theme of the Consumer Electronics Show a year ago, the report adds, but few manufacturers have rolled out mobile DTV equipment up to this point.
