CNN announced that its new prime-time talk show “Piers Morgan Tonight” beat its main competition, Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” in Nielsen Fast Nationals for Tuesday in the key 25-54 demo. The program also improved on its Monday night premiere numbers in the demo, the network said.

“Piers Morgan Tonight’s” Tuesday telecast had 1.27 million total viewers and 551,000 in the 25-54 demo, the network reported. The demo figure compares to 506,000 for “Hannity.” The numbers for “Hannity” were higher, however, in total viewers, with 2.18 million.

The competition on MSNBC, “The Rachel Maddow Show,” trailed with 1.13 million total viewers and 265,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.

The CNN show, which featured Howard Stern as a guest, was up 6% from its Monday premiere in the 25-54 demo, the network said.

The Tuesday numbers for “Piers Morgan” represent a 224% increase over CNN’s fourth-quarter average in the 25-54 demo and a 94% improvement in total viewers, the network announced.
