You've Probably Hummed at Least One of His Tunes--Composer of Themes for 'Goldfinger,' 'Born Free,' 'Dances With Wolves' and Many Others, Winner of Five Oscars, Dead at 77 THR

The man who created the signature music for the James Bond movies and won five Academy Awards in a career spanning almost 50 years has died of a heart attack at the age of 77, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

John Barry's family issued a statement, saying, "It is with great sadness that the family of composer John Barry announce his passing on the 30th of January 2011 in New York."

Barry wrote for the theater and television, too, but it was his scores for 11 James Bond movies--and the classic themes that have been in all the 007 films--that made him a legendary composer. In ensuing years, he won Oscars for "Born Free," "Midnight Cowboy," "Dances With Wolves" and "Out of Africa," receiving numerous nominations for other pictures as well.
