CNN has continued to draw viewers with its coverage of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, reports the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

The story says that Friday’s audience for the total day, 2.27 million, was CNN’s biggest draw since the Jan. 2009 inauguration.

CNN also won among cable-news networks on Saturday and Sunday and improved on Monday night, when its programming was focused on Japan, the piece notes.

On Saturday night, CNN drew 2.15 million viewers, more than triple its Saturday night average for the year, while its Sunday night audience more than quadrupled from its yearly average, the story notes.
