Fox News Channel expects "significant" carriage fee increases as it renews deals with distributors this year, according to News Corp. chief operating officer Chase Carey, who spoke at an investor conference on Monday, reports Multichannel News.

Carey declined to say how much Fox News will be asking for or with which distributors it will be negotiating, the story notes. It adds that the last time Fox News entered renewal negotiations, in 2006 and 2008, it was able to triple its fees in some deals to 75 cents per subscriber per month.

"We head into our renewals on Fox News later this year in a big way. We have an opportunity to move Fox News to a place where we are able to capture the inherent value and importance of that channel to the marketplace out there," Carey said, the story notes.
