A lawyer representing 51 people who say they were victims of phone hacking outlined the alleged tactics of News Corp.’s now defunct tabloid News of the World, which included alleged vilification, blackmailing and harassment, reports The New York Times.

The attorney, David Sherborne, said Hugh Grant’s former girlfriend, who was pregnant with their child, received a "barrage of telephone calls" from a blocked number just as Grant was speaking on a BBC program against the tabloid industry, the story says. "She was threatened in the most menacing terms” and told to tell Grant to "shut up" when she answered the calls, Sherborne says.

Many of Sherborne’s clients, including "Harry Potter" series writer J.K. Rowling, will testify in front of the Leveson Inquiry panel next week, the story says.
