Nielsen Says It Made a Mistake in Children’s Ratings

Nielsen, which has been embroiled in a dispute with Nickelodeon over children’s ratings, has admitted it made a mistake. The company says it erred when it said children’s ratings are up this season, although it stands by its decreasing numbers for Nickelodeon, reports TheWrap.com.

Nielsen had earlier told TheWrap.com and The Wall Street Journal that viewing among kids 2 to 11 had increased 1.7% this season, the story notes.

On Monday, Nielsen said that the figure was wrong and viewership is actually down 2.9%, the story says.

The error may provide Nickelodeon with ammunition as it argues that its audience has been undercounted, the piece adds. Nielsen said no other data was affected by the error.

Philippe Dauman, the chief executive of Nickelodeon parent Viacom, said at a conference on Monday that he is "frustrated" by the "inexplicable" drop in Nickelodeon’s numbers, the piece adds.
