CBS has announced its first round of pickups for next season, and it’s a sweeping announcement: The network has renewed 18 series, Businessweek reports.

The pickups are for four comedies, nine dramas, three reality shows and two news programs.

On the comedy side, the network renewed breakout comedy “2 Broke Girls” along with sophomore sitcom “Mike & Molly" and veterans "The Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother." Conspicuously absent from the list is "Two and a Half Men," with the network saying it’s in "preliminary discussions" with Warner Bros. TV on the fate of the show.

Drama pickups are “Person of Interest,” “Blue Bloods,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “The Good Wife,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: LA,” “Criminal Minds,” “CSI” and “The Mentalist.”

Unscripted shows "Survivor," “The Amazing Race” and “Undercover Boss” were also picked up, as were news programs “60 Minutes” and “48 Hours Mystery.”

Said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler: “This large-scale renewal is testimony to the strength, stability and success of a deep and diverse roster of top-rated programming. It positions us for continued success next season and certainly creates an environment that will give our new shows the best possible chance to succeed.”

  1. Renew “A Gifted Man” and I’ll be happy.
That is why the ratings process on whether or not a show gets renewed really needs to be revamped. A Gifted Man has won its time slot in total viewers virtually every week since it came on. It has averaged over 8 million viewers a week the entire season. Even when A Gifted Man had RERUNS on it won its time slot in total viewers. Here are the ratings for the season finale:
    NBC Grimm 1.6/5 5.30
    CBS A Gifted Man 1.5/4 9.70
ABC Primetime What Would You Do? 1.5/5 5.16
    FOX Kitchen Nightmares (R) 1.1/3 2.72
    CW Supernatural (R) 0.3/1 1.03
A Gifted Man had 9.7 million viewers and the next nearest show had only 5.3 million viewers but since renewals are based on the DEMO Group viewing and A Gifted Man has always rated lower with the DEMO Group (ages 18 to 49), it will probably get cancelled. With ratings you can win your time slot in total viewers always but if you don’t have good ratings with the DEMO Group then you will get cancelled. For what it is worth, please CBS don’t cancel A Gifted Man!!!!
