FX has bought a new late-night show from a veteran of “Saturday Night Live,” The New York Times’ ArtsBeat reports. The show is from Chris Rock, although Rock won’t be featured on the program, the story reports.

The show is a weekly half-hour featuring comedian W. Kamau Bell, who will focus on provocative issues such as politics, race, religion and sex, the story notes. Rock, who is serving as the show’s executive producer, described Bell as "one of the funniest guys out there," the story says.

FX has ordered six episodes of the series, the piece adds.

  1. People do not give a shit about these topics on a late night show. They want to be entertained. These are the topics that cost both Oprah and Rosie their audience shares. As Johnny Carson once told a producer of an upcoming late night television show: “These shows are about the guy who sits behind the desk.” (“The Late Shift,” by Bill Carter)
I give this program about three weeks before it is canceled.
