A woman who inspired a 1970 TV cartoon series has died, reports TheWrap.com. The inspiration for lead singer and guitarist Josie McCoy of “Josie and the Pussycats,” Josie DeCarlo, died in her sleep, the story reports.

The Hanna-Barbera character was drawn to resemble DeCarlo by her husband, the comic book artist Dan DeCarlo, who passed away in 2001 at the age of 82, the story notes.

Josie DeCarlo’s age wasn’t immediately available.

"We went on a Caribbean cruise, and I had a costume for the cruise, and that’s the way it started,” Josie DeCarlo said in an interview after her husband’s death, describing her cat suit.

Born Josie Dumont, she met her husband in Belgium on a blind date after the Battle of the Bulge, the piece notes. The pair first communicated via drawing, since her husband didn’t speak French and she didn’t speak English, the story says.
