Alec Baldwin’s comments have been making news on a regular basis lately, and the latest one could be a blockbuster. Baldwin indicated Monday that NBC’s “30 Rock” will end next year, US Weekly reports.

But how much weight does his comment carry? The “announcement” follows a series of news items on Baldwin in the past couple of weeks, including the arrest of an alleged stalker, Baldwin’s frustration with a “Today” show camera crew camped out near his home, and a proclamation that he is leaving NBC — followed by a clarification that he has no hard feelings toward the network and that he plans to remain on "30 Rock" through next season.

He said Monday that NBC has to tweak its lineup to improve its ratings, as reported previously, but his comments have received intense scrutiny in the past 24 hours, with some media reports interpreting them to mean “30 Rock’s” upcoming season seven will be the show’s last. That would mean as of spring 2013, it’s a wrap.

It wouldn’t be a huge surprise considering that the show’s ratings, like those for much of NBC’s lineup, have been dwindling. Also factored into the news — and how it’s interpreted — is that Baldwin’s recent pattern on Twitter and in public comments has tended to include overstating the situation and later clarifying what he meant.

US Weekly noted that a rep for “30 Rock” declined to comment on the future of the show. So, will it end after next season? It’s starting to look that way, but stay tuned.
