A daytime soap opera that has been struggling in the ratings is shaking things up in the writers’ room, EW.com’s Inside TV reports.

The NBC soap "Days of our Lives" replaced its head writers less than a year after hiring Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas Jr. to help enliven the aging show, the story reports.

The new writers are the Emmy-winning pair Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell, who have previously written for "Days of our Lives," the story notes.

The soap is currently tied with "The Bold and the Beautiful" as the least-watched soap opera in daytime among women 18 to 49, the piece points out. The most-watched soap in the demographic is "The Young and the Restless."
