Cee Lo's Plan to Change Things Up on NBC's 'The Voice' Sparks Protest THR, TMZ
A change Cee Lo Green has in mind for the third season of NBC’s "The Voice" has sounded alarms among activists. News that Green wants to swap out his cat mascot for an endangered bird species sparked concern among animal rights groups, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Green wants to judge the third season accompanied by a moluccan cockatoo named Lady, the story notes. His second-season mascot was a cat named Purrfect.
Bird activists are concerned not only because this type of cockatoo is endangered, but also because it reportedly makes a terrible pet, the story reports.
Monica Engrebretson, a representative for the animal rights organization Born Free, said the birds are known for their self-mutilating behaviors, such as feather plucking, according to TMZ.com.
"I encourage ‘The Voice’ to reconsider featuring a moluccan cockatoo or any bird as a 'pet' on the show and instead promote a more appropriate companion animal such as a dog. Even better, they could feature a rescue dog or a dog in need of a home," she said, according to the TMZ story.
Green hasn't yet commented, according to The Reporter.
