Former Harpo Exec to Develop First-Run Programming for NBCU's Syndication Division TVWeek
NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution has named a former top development exec from Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions to develop original first-run programming for the syndication company.
Valerie Schaer takes the position of executive VP, creative affairs, it was announced today by Barry Wallach, president of NBCU DTD.
In its announcement, the company said: “Schaer will be responsible for development of original programming for NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution and will also oversee the division’s current first-run programming, including two new daytime shows ‘Steve Harvey’ and ‘Trisha Goddard,’ both which debut this fall. Schaer, who will report to Wallach, will join NBCU in July 2012 and will be based in New York.”
Said Wallach: "Valerie comes to NBCUniversal with a wealth of development and production experience, creativity and has a keen eye on the ever-changing landscape of the syndication marketplace. We are excited to have Valerie’s expertise as we expand our first-run offerings.”
Schaer has been executive VP of creative development for Harpo since August 2009.
