Is the Palin Family’s Star Fading? Anemic Numbers for New Bristol Palin Reality Show Offer a Clue

A feeble viewer turnout for the premiere of "Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp" on Lifetime raises a question about whether the Palin family has lost its ratings appeal, EW.com’s Inside TV reports.

The new show focusing on the teenage mom — the daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin — drew only 726,000 viewers and a weak 0.2 rating among adults 18-49, the story notes. By comparison, the audience for the launch of Lifetime’s recent failed show "Roseanne’s Nuts" drew 1.6 million viewers, the article points out.

As recently as two years ago, Bristol Palin was considered a hot ratings draw, helping pump up numbers for ABC with her appearance on “Dancing with the Stars.”

The story adds: “For awhile there, Bristol and her famous politician mom boosted ratings nearly everywhere they went. Even Sarah Palin’s contrived TLC show ‘Alaska’ opened to a whopping 5 million viewers in 2010, and ‘Dancing’ had one of its best cycles in recent years partly due to Bristol’s suspiciously long reign as a contestant.”

But the romance with television may not be over for the Palins. As the story notes, Sarah Palin’s recent guest-hosting appearance on NBC’s “Today” show appeared to boost ratings for the show.
