A character who has been seen only sporadically on NBC’s “The Office” is getting a promotion to series regular, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

The character is Nellie Bertram, the British manager played by Catherine Tate. Tate first appeared on the show during the seventh-season finale, and has been featured in more than 10 episodes.

Most of the show’s major actors will be returning for the upcoming ninth season. The exceptions are executive producer and actress Mindy Kaling, who is leading the Fox comedy "The Mindy Project," and James Spader, who left after the most recent season ended.

Tate is known for her comedy work in the U.K., including the sketch series “The Catherine Tate Show,” and has been a regular on the recent incarnation of “Doctor Who.”
