USA's 'Political Animals' Taps Screen Legend to Play Lesbian Supreme Court Justice -- Lineup Now Includes Three Actresses With 15 Oscar Nominations Among Them Deadline
USA's "Political Animals" has tapped a screen legend to portray the first openly gay member of the Supreme Court, reports Deadline.com.
Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave will play Diane Nash, who is also a friend and mentor to Sigourney Weaver's character, Elaine Barrish, a divorced former first lady and newly appointed Secretary of State.
Redgrave joins fellow Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn on the show, along with multiple Oscar nominee Weaver. Among the three actresses, they share 15 Academy Award nominations, the story notes. Redgrave alone has six nominations, winning the Oscar in 1978 for her supporting role in “Julia.”
Burstyn also has six nominations, and won the trophy in 1975 for “Alice Doesn’t Live Her Anymore.” Weaver, best known for the “Alien” series, received one of her three nominations in 1987 for “Aliens,” and was nominated twice in one year, in 1989, for “Working Girl” and “Gorillas in the Mist.”
“Political Animals” will debut July 15, and will air Sundays at 10 p.m.
