NBC Sports Net Rolls Out Plans for New Show -- a Faster-Paced Rival to 'SportsCenter'? B&C

NBC Sports Network has taken the wraps off plans for a new sports highlights show, B&C reports. The program, “The ‘Lights,” will premiere Aug. 13.

The show will air in a two-hour morning block, 7-9 a.m., with 20 minutes of programming, updating as needed. It will feature video clips, graphics and voiceovers, but will not have an on-camera anchor, the story reports.

The show will lead off NBC Sports Network’s post-Olympics lineup, which will also feature “Sports Illustrated” and “NBC Sports Talk.”

Given the format, "The 'Lights" is seen by some as a potential rival to ESPN's established highlights and sports news show "SportsCenter," with the new NBC effort running through the previous day's sports at a faster pace.

In a statement, Jon Miller, president of programming for NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network, said: "We are very excited to launch NBC Sports Network's new programming schedule. 'The 'Lights’ will serve as a catalyst for our new programming lineup, and will quickly provide sports fans all of the scores and highlights they crave as they start their day."
