Baseball Rain Delay Triggers 'Total F Up' for Fox and 'X Factor,' Sets Up Another Showdown Between 'X Factor' and NBC's 'The Voice' Deadline

Fox's "The X Factor" and NBC's "The Voice" will once again go head-to-head after a baseball rain delay caused Fox -- after a series of glitches -- to reschedule Wednesday's episode, reports Deadline.com.

Simon Cowell, the creator of "X Factor," wrote on Twitter that the scheduling situation amounted to "a total f up," the story notes.

"Fox first attempted to air 'X Factor' tonight [Wednesday] as scheduled on the East Coast despite a baseball rain delay that bled into primetime," the story reports. "After getting word that Game 3 of NLCS wouldn’t resume before the end of Fox’s primetime at 10 PM ET, the network began airing 'X Factor' on the East Coast at about 8:40 PM. But about an hour later, word came that the game would start momentarily, prompting Fox to pull the 'X Factor' feed to switch back to baseball. However, the game did not start right away but after a portion of a 'Mindy Project' repeat. Compounding Fox’s woes tonight, a technical error had the East Coast feed of 'The X Factor' air simultaneously on the West Coast.”

Eventually, an “X Factor” repeat was set to air Wednesday night on the West Coast, the story reports, while the episode that was scheduled to air -- which includes the conclusion of the so called “Judges’ Homes” round -- was moved to next Tuesday, when the full two hours will air.

The scheduling change means "The X Factor" will pre-empt Fox's new Tuesday comedy block. That marks a second delay for the shows "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project," after they were pre-empted for the presidential debate this week.

"Now their return will be delayed for another week, a very disruptive move, especially for a new series," the article notes.

“The X Factor” and “The Voice” competed directly against each other early in the fall season, on Wednesday, Sept. 12. As previously reported, NBC’s “The Voice” had the edge in head-to-head ratings, but Fox won the night.
